Here are the reasons why I believe Mad Men won only one Acting Emmy. Let me know what you think, or if you have different reasons in the comments!
- AMC Wasn’t HBO.
It was a Relatively new network, having made the switch from movies to network with original programming only a few years before and was only on the Emmys’ radar a few years before as well.
- Lack of Initial Stars
While other shows have big names tied to them, Mad Men wasn’t one of them. Unlike other shows that have had people become stars during its run initially, it wasn’t one of them.
- The Competition
Going up against more popular series like Breaking Bad, Mad Men couldn’t match their mass appeal and familiarity. Nobody associated with it was that well-known, not even the writers and producers.
- Speeches, Speeches, Speeches
Mad Men never had any loud, passionate speeches. Compared to their contemporaries, nobody grandstanded. It was too quiet and not memorable.
- Breaking Bad
Breaking Bad had everything Mad Men never had: a man of action, greater popularity, and more well-known people associated with it, an actor’s favorite.
